ANXIETY & OCD TREATMENT

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

A structured, evidence-based program for OCD and anxiety disorders that provides a higher level of support than weekly therapy.

Intensive outpatient treatment for severe anxiety and OCD

When OCD or anxiety symptoms feel overwhelming or are significantly interfering with daily life, weekly sessions may not feel like enough support. Renewed Freedom Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a more structured approach, combining evidence-based methods such as CBT and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) with a schedule designed for consistent skill practice and clinical guidance. IOP is often a good fit for people who need more frequent treatment to build momentum, reduce avoidance, and strengthen daily functioning.

Who IOP is designed for

IOP may be a strong option when symptoms are more severe, when daily routines are being disrupted, or when progress has been difficult to maintain with weekly therapy alone. It can be especially helpful for people experiencing:

  • Significant avoidance that limits work, school, or social life
  • Persistent intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors
  • Anxiety that feels hard to manage without structured support
  • A need for more frequent sessions to build skills and follow-through

If you are unsure what level of care fits best, starting with a diagnostic evaluation can help clarify the most appropriate plan.

Why choose an intensive outpatient program?

IOP is designed to provide more structure and repetition than standard outpatient care. That structure supports consistent skill-building and helps translate treatment tools into real-world change. At Renewed Freedom Center, IOP is grounded in evidence-based approaches and individualized planning.

Evidence-based methods

IOP incorporates proven approaches used in OCD and anxiety treatment, including CBT and ERP. Learn more about RFC’s approach to CBT here: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Structured and flexible scheduling

Sessions typically span 3 to 4 hours per day, 2 to 5 days per week, over 3 to 6 weeks, allowing individuals to receive intensive care while maintaining key responsibilities when possible.

Personalized treatment planning

Treatment is tailored based on symptom severity, goals, and the level of family involvement that may be helpful. The goal is to create a plan that is practical, realistic, and aligned with your needs.

A specialized team

IOP is delivered by clinicians who specialize in treating anxiety disorders and OCD, with ongoing adjustment of the treatment plan based on clinical progress and needs.

What to expect in RFC’s Intensive Outpatient Program

Comprehensive diagnostic evaluation

IOP typically begins with an assessment to clarify symptom patterns, severity, and goals. This helps create a focused plan and determine which evidence-based strategies are most appropriate.

Skill-building and training

Sessions include structured skill practice designed to reduce avoidance, change patterns that reinforce anxiety or OCD, and build confidence in real-life situations.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP focuses on gradually facing feared triggers while reducing compulsions and avoidance behaviors. It is commonly used for OCD and can also be helpful for certain anxiety disorders.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT supports treatment by addressing unhelpful thought patterns and building practical coping skills that can be applied outside sessions.

Family systems support (when appropriate)

For some individuals, involving family members or caregivers can improve follow-through at home and reduce patterns that unintentionally reinforce symptoms. The level of involvement is based on clinical need and individual circumstances.

Ongoing assessment and adjustments

Progress is monitored throughout the program, and the treatment plan is refined as needed to keep care aligned with your goals.
